Driver Pay Programs

An appropriate driver pay program can result in an extremely efficient and cost–effective delivery operation. Though there are many pay methods such as hourly pay, stop pay and mile pay, to name a few, the most effective compensation program is one that links pay to the actual work elements and effort required on a route.

TZA's program includes the development of standard operating procedures and engineered standards to set a baseline of "normal" expectations on each route based on the various elements of the delivery, miles traveled and customer requirements. Once standards have been established, a "component pay" program is implemented to not only increase productivity, but to protect the company from the inequities and abuse of the current pay program. This program, supported by ProTrack - Drivers Labor Management System, typically results in a 10-30% increase in driver productivity. Labor savings, as well as a reduction in equipment, allows for significant annual savings which can be used to fund an incentive program for the remaining drivers.

A fair and equitable pay program, coupled with an incentive program, results in motivated drivers with better than normal pay opportunities, which positively impacts turnover and bottom line delivery cost.

TZA's Component Pay Program is but one example of a driver pay program that can be designed to improve the efficiency of fleet operations.
